Cough Natural Remedies, Home Remedies & Cures

Garlic and Honey

Into a saucepan with about two cups of water, grate about an inch of fresh ginger root, add a mashed garlic clove and a half of a lemon sliced peel and all. Bring this up to a boil and then simmer it very lightly for about 30 minutes with a lid on the pot. Strain this an pour into cups and add quite a lot of honey.  The tea will get even stronger if you let it sit awhile and it is very invigorating.  This tea will soothe a sore throat and it will open up the nasal airways and clear the lungs.  I make this tea when a cold first starts to show up and it helps in fighting it off.  I like it a lot better than the over the counter hot lemon cough cures and it is a lot cheaper!

Dark Chocolate

When you start getting a cough, eat some dark chocolate with a very high cocoa content.  The higher the better.  This will work to slow down or stop the formation of phlegm.  Don’t eat too much or you may get diarrhea.

***

Cayenne

There is a compound in red pepper that is similar to an active ingredient found in cough syrups.   Take cayenne pepper capsules for a cough but not on an empty stomach.  This is a great cough home remedy.

***

To cure a cough you can mix together a quarter teaspoon of powdered ginger, a tablespoon of raw honey, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, a quarter teaspoon of red cayenne pepper and 2 tablespoons of water.  Take this in one teaspoon doses for relief from a congested cough.

***

Take a ½ tablespoon of raw honey when you get up in the morning, an hour before eating and again when you go to bed.

***

Watermelon

If you have a daytime dry cough get a watermelon and cut out some of the white area between the outer skin and the red meat.  Put this in a pan with some water and boil it on low heat for about 30 minutes.  Let it cool and drink it.  This will cure a dry day cough.  Don’t do this if you have a night cough as it will become worse.

Put a dash of ground white pepper in a tablespoon of raw honey and your cough will be history in about three days.  Take this several times a day.  If you us black pepper instead you will expel phlegm more easily.  Another thing to do is to put a piece of fresh ginger in your tea that you make on the stove top.  This is all a very good cough natural remedy.

***

You can prevent a coughing event by sipping a little water and then slosh the water from side to side in your mouth.  As long as you keep doing this, a cough will not erupt.

***

Hot Clove

Put a clove or two in a gas stove flame and heat them up. Then put them in your mouth and suck on them.  This is a great cure for a cough.

***

Put mentholated rub (I like Tiger Balm) all over your feet and then put on some cotton socks.  This will greatly reduce your cough.  Also rub the balm all over your chest and throat.  This is one of the best cough home remedies.

***

Cinnamon

If have one of those bad coughs that goes non-stop, then this is one of the most effective cough cures.  Blend together a half tablespoon of powdered cinnamon, a tablespoon of honey and half glass of water that is hot but so you can stand it.  Drink this and it will provide near instantaneous relief.  Trust me this really works and I used it on my husband and my son.

If you want your cough to disappear right away, put a generous amount of Vicks Vapor Rub all over your feet and then put on some heavy socks.  Your cough will be gone almost instantaneously.  If you wake up in the night with the same coughing, do the same thing all over again.  This is a good cough treatment for me and my family.
