Cough Natural Remedies, Cures & Home Remedies

This really feels good if you have a cough.  Take a small bowl and fill it up about 2/3s with boiling hot water/.  Put a teaspoon of Vicks Vapor Rub or other menthol camphor type balm in the water.  Add mint essential oil and a few cloves.  Give it about a minute and then inhale the fumes.  Breathe the vapors in deeply.

This is the cough home remedy my dad used on us kids.  Take about a half or ¾ full bottle of whiskey and put in some hard rock candy and two lemons that have been cut into quarters or eighths.  Add some honey.  Leave this to set for 24 hours.  He gave it to us for colds and coughs and it really works great!  It will also help you sleep.

Lime and Soy Sauce

I would like to share my most excellent cough natural remedy.  It is also good for a sore throat.  This works really good and is a traditional cough cure in Asia.  Juice a half a lime and add this to one teaspoon of soy bean sauce which you can get at an Asian grocery.  Some regular stores carry it too.  Mix the lime juice and the soy bean sauce and drink it down.  You will find instant relief for you cough and sore throat.  I use this two or three times a day.

Steaming

Steam is a great way to cure a cough if the cough is medium to mild.  This also works great on head congestion, sinus problems and congestion in the chest).  Here is how you do it.  Bring a quart or more of water to a boil.  Put it in a large bowl and put the steaming water in it on a table. Sit and put your head over the bowl and drape a bath towel over your head to contain the steam around your head.  Do this breathing the steaming vapors for about fifteen minutes.  You can put a little camphor powder in the water if you want to spice it up a bit.  Keep your eyes closed if you do this.

Eat some dark chocolate if you want to cure your cough.  Only two ounces of dark chocolate has a gram of Theobromine.  Clinical studies have found that theobromine is 33 percent more potent and effective than codeine.  One ounce of dark chocolate should be enough for a small child.

To get a cough to loosen up (expectorant) and to soothe a throat that is sore, try this really good cough home remedy.  First make about 8 ounces of peppermint tea.  Put in two tablespoons of lemon juice, three tablespoons of honey and a dash of cayenne pepper.  As an option you can put in an ounce of liquor like brandy or whiskey.  Mix all of these ingredients (except the liquor) into the tea while it is still very hot.  When it cools down add the liquor and drink it according to need.

I know this will sound bizarre, but it really does work and there is nothing to buy or make.  If you are unable to stop coughing, simply raise up one of your arms above your head.  You only need to do one arm.  I don’t know if this will work with two arms raised.  Everyone I know who has tried this says it works and it works for me.

Put a heaping teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of hot tea.  Let it set for a few minutes so the active ingredients in the turmeric leach out into the tea.  Drink while still hot.  Turmeric is a natural antibiotic.

The Brazilian Cough Natural Remedy

Get a standard size jar of oregano and put 3/4s of this in one and a half liters of water.  Also add a medium sized onion that has been quartered.  Add one or two cloves of garlic peeled and then crushed.  Boil all of this.  Pour it into a glass container and let it stand for four hours.  Drink it by the cup reheating as you go.  Add a little honey to sweeten it up.  This does wonders for me!
