Fever Home Remedies & Natural Treatments

A great natural fever treatment is to induce sweating.  This may seem counter intuitive, but the perspiration will actually cool the fever and helps to eliminate toxins from the body.  A great natural way to accomplish this is through the herb blood wort.  This can be ingested by preparing a hot tea with fifteen grams of the herb with 250 milliliters of water.  This tea should be drunk twice a day.

Sweating is a great home remedy to bring down a fever.  Perspiration helps to cool the body and makes the fever break.  One of the best home remedies to treat fever is to induce sweating by consuming a tea made from hog weed.  Take 15 grams of hog weed and combine with 250 ml of water.  Bring the solution to a boil, then drink twice daily.

At the first sign of a fever, a wonderful natural treatment is to ingest orange juice and water for the first twelve hours.  Combine orange juice with warm water every two hours for the first twelve hours of the fever.

Once a fever has broken, it's wise to consume fresh fruit exclusively for the first few days.  This allows the body to readjust itself.  Combine fresh fruits (the juicier, the better!) for three meals a day.  After this is done for a few says, you can transition to a well-balanced diet.  Be sure to continue to include lots of raw (or lightly cooked) vegetables and fruits in your diet.

During an orange juice fast, it is advised to administer a daily warm-water enema.  If the fever has risen above 103 degrees F, then it is wise to apply cold compresses to the head.

If a fever is high (above 103 degrees F), and does not respond to a cold pack on the head, a good natural treatment is to apply a cold compress to the entire body.  To accomplish this, soak a bed sheet or any large piece of material in cold water.  Once the material is soaked, remove from the water and wring thoroughly to remove all excess liquid.  Now, wrap the body; starting at the head.  Be sure to wrap twice around the body.  Once the sheet is wrapped around the body, place something warm over it, such as a thin blanket.  Keep the body wrapped for an hour. Wrap the body in this manner every three hours as long as fever is present.

Anti-inflammatory treatments like willow bark or aspirin are some of the best treatments for fever.  It is also helpful to drink lots of liquids, especially water and juice.  Getting lots of rest is also a vital treatment for fever.  Resting with a blanket helps the fever to break, even if the patient feels really warm.

A warm shower is very beneficial once a fever has broken.  It's normal to feel a little wobbly after a fever has broken, but the shower will definitely help with this.  Fever and rest will also help post-fever.  Goldenseal is a very effective natural treatment for fever when combined with echinacea.  Colloidal silver (silver solution) is also a great home remedy for treating fever.
