How to Clean Floors Home Remedies

I found out how to clean floors the natural way.  It's very simple to make a homemade natural floor cleaner.  The basic ingredients are any essential oil, water and distilled vinegar.  You may choose the essential oil for its properties or simply one that you like.  You can use lemon essential oil for a disinfectant.  Other citrus oils are good for this purpose as well.  Eucalyptus and tea tree oils are wonderful degreasers and help to remove tough dirt.  These oils are best to use in a high traffic area.  Peppermint oil is also a popular choice because it not only leaves behind a refreshing scent, but it also repels insects.  Fill a 16 ounce spray bottle with about seven ounces of each liquid.  Be sure to leave a little bit of room at the top.  Once you've added your liquids, add about 15-20 drops of the essential oil of your choice.  While you can mix and match different oils, be sure that the total number of drops does not exceed 20.  Shake all ingredients together in a bottle and be sure to shake again before each use.

Natural floor cleaner can be made by mixing 1/8 of a cup of vegetable oil based liquid soap (you can usually find these in health stores, or online), ½ cup of vinegar and two gallons of warm water.  Mix these ingredients together in a big bucket.  This can be used on wood, tile and linoleum floors.

Wood floors can start to look dull.  To naturally increase the shine, combine equal parts olive oil and vinegar together.  Rub a small amount onto your wood floors with a dry, clean cloth.  You'll begin to notice more shine on your floors and the oil will help to keep the wood moisturized.

Try combining a mild dish soap (one without degreasers, try Ivory or regular Palmolive) or a liquid vegetable oil based cleaner.

A great method on how to clean floors is to remove light to medium floor stains is a mixture of one cup of warm water with ¼ cup of white vinegar.  Use the solution to lightly spray the area, let it soak for a few minutes, then clean by blotting with paper towels.  You can also use ammonia with warm water.

If you have deep stains, the best natural cleaner is to create a paste with ¼ cup each of white vinegar, borax and salt.  Rub the paste onto the difficult stain and be sure to leave it to soak in for about three hours.  Vacuum after the time has elapsed.

If you find that your carpet needs to be deodorized, vacuum then sprinkle baking soda over the entire affected area.  Allow the baking soda to remain on the carpet for two to three hours before vacuuming again.

An entire carpet can be cleaned naturally with a mixture of a gallon of water and a quarter of a cup of dish detergent.  Small areas can be cleaned by applying this mixture with a brush.  Any excess liquid can be cleaned with a cloth or paper towels.  Let the carpet dry, then vacuum the entire area.  This is an excellent way on how to clean floors.

A great natural cleaner for carpet is club soda (carbonated water).  This works best on medium or light stains that are new (we have other solutions on this page for set in stains).  Simply apply the club soda directly onto the stain, but do not soak the carpet to the point of saturation.  Allow the club soda to soak for a few minutes, then blot with a clean cloth or paper towels.
