Natural Fungal Infection Treatments and Home Remedies

Apple Cider Vinegar

A great natural treatment to get rid of fungal infections in toe nails is to simply soak your toes in a large basin that has been filled with equal parts warm water and apple cider vinegar.  Soak your toes in this mixture for about fifteen to twenty minutes.  When you've removed your feet from the basin, pat dry with a clean cotton towel, then use a hair dryer set to medium heat to completely dry each toe and the space between each toe.  You'll find that this treatment is very effective because apple cider vinegar is mild and helps to prevent fungus to spreading and helps to slow its growth.  While you may find that this treatment is very effective, you may choose to use a more intense treatment.  A main method of treatment that can be supplemented by apple cider vinegar is exfoliation.  It's simple to make a homemade natural exfoliating scrub by mixing the same apple cider vinegar you used for a soak with ground rice flour.  This will create a paste that should be applied all over the infected nail and the surrounding area.  Be sure that the nail is clean before applying the scrub.  You may want to use a cotton swab to ensure that the nail and surrounding area are thoroughly cleaned.  If the area around the infected nail is sore or cut, don't use the exfoliant on any broken or irritated skin.  Exfoliating the skin not only helps with fungal infections, but it will also help to rid the skin of any dead skin cells which will keep the skin healthy and soft.  Once the skin is fully exfoliated, rinse the feet well and dry with a clean cotton towel.  To moisturize feet after exfoliating, you can make a great moisturizer with natural ingredients that also help to fight fungal infections.  To make the moisturizer, combine equal parts olive oil and lemon juice.  Massage the mixture onto your feet.  You'll find that the olive oil will help to moisturize the feet and will reduce areas of rough, dry skin.  The lemon juice naturally controls fungus and helps to fight any fungal infections.

Tea Tree Lavender Oils for Fungal Infection Natural Remedy

A great combination of oils for fungal infections is equal parts tea tree oil mixed with lavender oil.  To treat a nail that has been infected with fungus, simply mix equal parts of each oil together and apply to the nail using a cotton swab or cotton ball.  Just dab the mixture on the outside of the nail, and be sure to fully cover the affected area.  Lavender oil has anti-fungal properties and helps to prevent skin irritation.  It also has antiseptic properties.  Tea tree oil is a well-known natural cure for treating fungus, as it is a natural antibiotic and anti-fungal treatment.  The combination of these two oils is extremely effective at treating fungal infections, as they are used to treat onchomycosis (fungal infection of the nail) and paronychia (fungal infection of the skin surrounding the nail).  The combination of these two oils can be used to treat severe cases of fungal infections, as they are very potent.  Because of the potency of these oils, be sure to dilute them with olive or vegetable oil before applying directly to the skin.  These oils can cause severe skin irritation, and should only be used when diluted with a carrier oil.  Simply mix equal parts lavender oil, tea tree oil and the carrier oil of your choice (olive oil will likely work best) and apply to affected nails with a cotton swab or ball before bedtime.  To help expedite the healing process, you can even try wearing cotton or wool socks if the affected areas are toe nails, or gloves if the affected nails are fingernails.  This can help speed the healing because the heat from the body will increase the effectiveness of the oils.  Be sure to use this treatment daily until the fungus is completely gone.  Be sure to be diligent with your treatment, otherwise the fungus will continue to spread and will only worsen.

Oregano Oil Powerful Fungal Infection Home Remedy

Oregano essential oil is a fantastic home remedy for fungal infections.  This oil has anti-fungal properties, but it also has analgesic, antiviral, anti-parasitical, anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties as well.  This makes this oil very powerful, so this treatment should not be applied for a duration that extends a three week period.  Simply mix two drops of the oregano essential oil with a teaspoon of olive oil.  Apply this mixture daily to the area that is affected with fungus.  Again, it's important that you don't do this longer than three weeks.

Lotions containing alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) can help to remove the rough, dry, scaly skin from the bottom of the feet.  This is the skin that is most prone to fungal infections.  Lotions with AHA are very effective at naturally removing this skin and getting rid of fungal infections.
