Gout Home Remedies, Natural Treatments & Cures

I have been told by several sources and gave it a try myself to find out that it really works.  What I’m talking about is to go on an orange juice and water fast.  This will definitely address an acute attack of Gout.  If your situation is really severe; then perhaps you should only fast for two or three day durations instead of a more intense longer fast.

Diet is a great natural treatment for Gout.  Specifically, you should embark upon a all natural diet.  You should have an emphasis on a well-balanced diet of natural foods like fresh fruits, raw vegetables, and sprouts.

No Uric Acid Foods

To really take control of your Gout condition you must pay attention to your diet.  So many common foods are bad for you.  With having Gout you must be careful and avoid foods that are rich in purine because these produce uric acid.  These foods include:  all meats, eggs, fish, white flour, sugar, coffee, and tea.  Also, processed, canned, and fried foods are terrible this way.

Enema

When you are under the duress of a Gout attack and if you are undergoing a fast, it is also helpful to go through a warm- water enema process daily during the time you are fasting to cleanse the bowels.  This will add to your overall attempt to regain control of your Gout situation.  This is one of the best home remedies for gout.

Epsom Salt Bath

A very simple natural treatment for Gout that can provide some much needed relief is to take an Epsom salt bath.  Add about 250 gm to 500 gm of the Epsom salts to you bath and make it as hot as you can stand.  You should try to take one of these baths at least two and up to three times a week.

When you’re under a painful Gout attack there are some things you can do at home to help gain some relief.  Using some cold packs on your affected joints in the evening will provide some relief.  Also, you should get outside and try to get some fresh air and some form of exercise.  Try to find some ways to relieve stress from your life as anxiety and stress weakens the body’s ability to heal itself.

When you’re trying to combat or prevent the onset of Gout be careful of fad diets.  A lot of people who have trouble with Gout tend to be overweight and so they need to be careful of these diets as they can often trigger Gout attacks.  These diets will cause cells to break down and increase the production of uric acid.

When you’re attempting to try a more natural treatment for your Gout you must be careful of the vitamins you take.  For instance, too much niacin and vitamin A can be trouble for someone with Gout, often inducing an attack.  You should talk with your doctor before self administering what you think may help.

Be careful not to hurt yourself.  Gout will usually attack you at the joints and especially ones that have been previously traumatized.  Be careful to avoid stubbing your toe and wear loose fitting shoes that aren’t too tight.

Charcoal as Gout Home Remedy

In terms of home remedy treatment for Gout, the use of charcoal is very effective.  Charcoal can draw toxins from the body and can be used in different ways to address Gout.  One method is to mix about one half cup of powdered activated charcoal with a few tablespoons flaxseed that has been grounded in a blender.  To this, you add some water and make a paste.  Next you put the paste to the affected areas and cover it with a cloth or some type of plastic to keep it in place.  About every four hours you will need to change this dressing.  Be careful of not getting any charcoal stains on your clothes or bedding.  You can also take an old type of basin that there isn’t concern about staining and use it to create a charcoal foot bath.  Take about one half cup of charcoal powder and add it to water to make a paste that you add to the water.  Make sure to have the water hot and to have your foot completely submerged.  You will need to soak your foot between 30 minutes and an hour of time.  Lastly, you can take about one half to one teaspoon of some activated charcoal by mouth four times daily.  You would take these does upon waking, mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and in the evening before going to sleep.

To help combat Gout, be careful to avoid aspirin and acetaminophen.  Taking aspirin can worsen your Gout condition because it inhibits the excretion of uric acid.  Acetaminophen can not really offer much relief because it doesn’t possess much in terms of anti-inflammation.

***

Herbal Teas

It is important to get enough fluids when trying to take care of your Gout condition.  A simple natural treatment for Gout just requires you to drink some herbal teas.  These are good because they don’t contain caffeine and calories.  You don’t have to worry about weight gain or becoming too jittery.  Some type of teas that provide good examples include rosehip, peppermint, and sarsaparilla.  You can brew these as you would any other tea, and have lots of cups throughout the day.
