Ointments

There are various ointments, gels, and oils, available for people to put on blisters that will help them heal.  A few of these include vitamin E oil, Aloe vera, and zinc ointment.

Drain and Apply Corn Pad

At one time I was a ballet dancer and had to treat blisters that formed from the rubbing.  I also experienced a fair amount of pain from this.   I developed an approach that worked for me to treat the blisters.  I wanted to share this with you.  Get something like a needle or pin and sterilize it, then puncture the blister.  Then apply a little ointment like Neosporin on the area.  Cover this with a corn pad minus the inner part of the circular.  You may need to use a band aid if the adhesive doesn’t stick.  This will heal everything up.

When you have treated a blister and are ready to put a bandage over it; absolutely do not use a bandage that is a liquid bandage!  Trust me, you will suffer in pain.

Here is home remedy for treating your blisters.  Don’t attempt to drain them.  If you do, then drain them at the bottom.  Also, don’t take off the overlying skin.  Try to use an adhesive donut bandage for protection and comfort.

Traditional purists believe you shouldn’t prick blisters because of the risk of getting it infected.  Other experts say that it depends on the size of the blister.  Unless it small and doesn’t cause much discomfort, you probably need to drain it.  Sometimes it can become so big that it is like a balloon.

Moleskin Donut as Blister Home Remedy

If you want to protect your blister without draining it, make a moleskin doughnut.  Take a moleskin pad and cut into a doughnut shape and place it over the blister.  This will allow you to be active and normal in your daily activity as this type of bandage can provide shock absorber like support.  The moleskin should stay adhered to the skin if it is clean and dry.

When you approach draining your blister, be sure to be wise and sterilize the tool you use.  Using alcohol is a great way to sterilize the tool.  Also, there are others who recommend sterilization by flame.  Either way should be sufficient.

When I experience pain, I get a sterilized needle and poke the side of the blister.  I create a big enough opening to squeeze out the fluid.

Often people make a mistake when treating their blisters.  After they have punctured the bubble and allowed the draining of fluid, they often tear off the overhead flap of skin.  This is a mistake, and they shouldn’t do this.  This flap of skin is nature’s Band-Aid.  If you take it off; the remaining area will be red, raw, and painful.  If you just leave the flap of skin on, it will become hard and come off naturally.  This is a natural and quicker way of healing.

Lately, it has been found from research that a triple antibiotic like Neosporin is much better then old treatments like iodine and camphor-phenol for blisters.    Apparently it has been shown that a triple antibiotic will get rid of the bacterial contamination after just a couple of treatments.   The old treatments not only kill the germs but also kill off the cells in the area you want to heal.

Soaking as Blisters Home Remedy

A very good home remedy to help your blister heal is to take off the dressing at night and soak it in water.  Then, after you have soaked it, leave the bandages off and let it air out at night.  Air and water are great natural resources for healing.
