Conjunctivitis Home Remedies & Home Cures

 

Bear in mind that conjunctivitis is very contagious.  Don’t share pillows or towels.  Fingers should be kept away from the eyes as touching your eyes will make the condition worse.  Wash your face with herbal disinfectant soap.

One of the best home remedies for conjunctivitis is to heat water to the point of boiling and remove from fire.  Put in some marigold plant leaves and steep this like making tea. Once cool, use this marigold water as an eyewash.

According to ayurvedic medicine, constipation makes conjunctivitis worse.  Use a natural laxative to clear the bowels even if you don’t feel you may be constipated.  Many people are continuously constipated and don’t know it.  They have bowel movements but the feces is backed up in the colon regardless.

Chamomile

Place warm, almost dripping, chamomile tea bags on your closed eyes for about 15 minutes.  Do this again in a few hours.  This works very good to take redness out of eyes and is a very good home remedy for conjunctivitis.

Use chamomile flower tea as an eye wash.

Certain vegetable juices have been shown to be a beneficial home remedy for conjunctivitis.  Drink a mixture of carrot juice and spinach juice. Drink this twice a day until the illness is gone.

Indian gooseberry is a common home remedy for conjunctivitis in the East.  Mix 2 teaspoons of honey with a cup of Indian gooseberry juice.  Drink this two times daily for a week.

Eat foods that are high in vitamins B2 and A.  Some of these foods are tomatoes, pumpkins, almonds and carrots.

Coriander Eyewash

Here is one of the most effective home remedies for conjunctivitis.  In two ounces of water, put in a fist full of dried coriander.  Make a tea of this and use it to wash the eyes.  It will get rid of the burning feeling and lower the inflammation.

Stay away for heavy foods that are difficult to digest such as meat, fat and dairy products.  Avoid smoking and alcohol.  Sugar is inflammatory in general so avoid sugar when any illness or inflammation is present.

Mix some aloe vera juice with water and dip a wash cloth in this and press it over the eyes so they soak in the aloe solution.  This will help remove pain, itching and soreness.  This is one of the best natural remedies for conjunctivitis.

To clean crusty matter infected eyes, mix one part baby shampoo with ten parts water and softly moisten and remove the crust from the eyelids.

Epsom Salt Boric Acid Eyewash

Make an eye wash by mixing a half teaspoon of Epsom salts and a half teaspoon of boric acid with 8 ounces of water.  Make sure it is thoroughly dissolved so you don’t get any particles in your eyes.  Work the solution into your eye like you would eye drops.  Do this several times to flush the eyes out.  You can use an eye cup for this also.  This works great to relieve redness, stinging and burning and this will kill the infection.  This is an excellent time honored home remedy for conjunctivitis.

A few common conjunctivitis homeopathic remedies are belladonna, eyebright (euphrasia officinalis) and pulsatilla.  Eye washes and eye drops can be made from chamomile or eyebright.

An eyewash of boric acid is a time proven home remedy for conjunctivitis.

Regular black tea bags can be placed in hot water for a few minutes and then placed on the closed eyes for about 15 minutes.  Black tea will pull the infection and inflammation out of the eyes.  You can also use the steeped black tea as an eye wash.  This is a common remedy for other kinds of inflammation such as an abscessed tooth.

Soak some jasmine flowers in distilled water overnight to make eye drops.  This will work wonders especially when there is a discharge.
