Laryngitis Home Treatments, Natural Remedies & Cures

Ginger Tea

I have to say that drinking ginger tea will provide a great natural remedy for your laryngitis.  This will quickly act to soothe your aching throat.  You need to boil a cup of water and add some grated ginger and lemon to it.  Allow it to boil down a ways before straining it.  After you have strained it; add some honey and this will naturally cure your laryngitis.    Also, be sure to eat food that isn’t oily or difficult to swallow.  You should cook some soups like rice soup to help you through this time.

***

Salt & Turmeric

Gargling a couple times a day with warm water and a tablespoon of salt and one teaspoon of turmeric powder will be enough to provide home treatment for your laryngitis.  The salt will help to reduce the inflammation, the warm water will soothe, and the turmeric promotes healing.  It doesn’t taste good; but, it will do wonders for your vocal chords.  Also, try to always keep a cardamom in your mouth throughout the day.  The juice form this will help provide some relief to your painful throat.

***

Saltwater

If you’re ever become afflicted with laryngitis; a home treatment remedy that will certainly provide relief is the use of saltwater and gargling.  Add about one half teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water and gargle it several times throughout the day.  The salt water will help soothe your throat and will contribute to killing any infection you may have.

***

Slippery Elm Bark

Slippery elm bark tea is an excellent home treatment for laryngitis.  I have sipped this with a recent bout of laryngitis, and it performed a miracle on my condition!  Also, you can get it in powdered form and add it to yogurt and also get great results!

***

Honey as Laryngitis Home Remedy

Honey is a well known home remedy for laryngitis.  You can make some ginger tea and add the honey to it. This will really soothe the swelling of your larynx and help it to heal.  You can also suck on some candied ginger.

Mouthwash Gargle

In terms of home remedies or treatments for laryngitis I have found that if you gargle with an antibacterial mouthwash or antiseptic; you’ll be killing the germs that have created an infection in your larynx.  This will be very effective in treating your laryngitis.

***

Vinegar

You can take a glass one half full of vinegar and one half full of water and gargle it about five times daily and destroy the bacteria.  This provides an easy and good natural remedy for laryngitis.

***

Garlic & Ginger

If you are selective in the type of food you eat; you can naturally cure your laryngitis.  You can start by including a healthy dose of garlic and ginger in your diet.  Both of these have anti-microbial properties and will boost your immune system.

***

If you need a home treatment for laryngitis; then, I’d suggest you try sipping some hot ginger tea throughout the day.  This is great for healing up your throat and larynx.

***

Laryngitis is painful and you can lose your voice; however, you can heal your condition.  The first and most obvious home remedy for your laryngitis is to immediately stop speaking.  Be patient and don’t unnecessarily strain your vocal chords.  If you absolutely need to speak; then, speak normally as you can, don’t whisper.  If you whisper; you can actually put more strain on your vocal chords and even cause further damage.

***

Humidifier

Using a humidifier can provide a good natural cure for laryngitis.  Your throat and larynx is already under attack, and dry air only worsens your condition.  Also, be sure to use a humidifier at night in your room where you sleep.  This will help with keeping your vocal chords moistened.

***

One of the best home remedies for laryngitis is just good common sense.  Do not smoke!  You should avoid smoking at all costs.  Smoking can cause your laryngitis.  As you inhale the smoke; your larynx’s mass is enlarged, and this will cause the lowering of pitch.

***

If you have laryngitis; a good home treatment should start with avoiding caffeinated, alcoholic, or carbonated beverages.

***

For any laryngitis sufferers out there; avoid exposing yourself to any of the known irritants in your diet or even the airborne ones.  This is my suggestion for a natural cure regarding laryngitis.  Just be very watchful of what can be harmful and may worsen your condition.

***

Diet

With regard to laryngitis and a home treatment you can adopt; diet has to weigh heavily in this consideration.  You should avoid fried, oily, spicy, or salty food.  This applies to prevention as well as treatment for your laryngitis.

***

When trying to naturally cure your laryngitis; remember to consume plenty of fluids and keep yourself hydrated enough.  Drinking warm water throughout the day is very helpful in this regard.

***

Herbal Tea

If you have a case of laryngitis; then, you need to stay filled up with hot herbal teas throughout the day during this time.  This is a simple home remedy approach for treating laryngitis.  Some of the herbal teas can be very healing.

***

Milk & Garlic

To naturally cure your laryngitis and get rid of the hoarseness; I suggest you sip warm water and avoid cold drinks.  You can also provide your throat with some relief by gargling salt water.  You should do this twice a day, morning and night.  Also, make sure to have lots of garlic.  One way to get your garlic intake is to crush about five cloves and boil them in a cup of milk.  Boil away about half of the milk content before setting it aside for cooling.  You should be drinking the milk/garlic combination daily.

***

Steamed Menthol

If your laryngitis is caused by a viral infection; then it is temporary and shouldn’t last more than a few days.  Your larynx is inflamed and a good home remedy for your laryngitis in this case is to just rest your voice.  Also, steam inhalation with some menthol is good, and you should avoid smoky environments.

***

When I had laryngitis; I naturally cured it by keeping a garlic clove in my mouth all the time.  You can actually cut the clove in half and keep one side on each side of your mouth.  When you slice or crush the garlic it releases the anti-microbial substance called allicin.  Allicin will kill bacteria and is effective in combating strep and some other viruses.   The juice from the clove helps to lower swelling and heals the throat.

***

I notice lots of people suggest using a humidifier as a natural remedy for treating your laryngitis; but, there is even a more natural cure for your laryngitis.  Humidifiers are a great suggestion; however, your own nose is nature’s best humidifier.  It is a natural humidifier.  Always breathe through your nose, and check to make sure you don’t have a deviated nasal septum so you are able to breathe through your nose while sleeping.  If you sleep and breathe through your mouth; your throat and voice is exposed to cold and dry air.

***

Cough drops are a helpful home treatment for laryngitis; but, stay away from the mint and mentholated ones.  Instead, use the honey or fruit flavored soft cough drops.

***

If you are struggling with laryngitis or are trying to avoid getting it; take caution when flying in an airplane.  The air in the cabin is very pressurized and dry and you should suck on a lozenges or chew a stick of gum.  This is to keep your mouth closed and to also increase saliva production.  This is a good home remedy for laryngitis; even though you may be flying away from home!

***

While experiencing laryngitis; you should be mindful of the type of prescription drugs you take as some can be very drying on your throat.  Medications for your thyroid, blood pressure, or antihistamines are examples of drugs that are drying.  You may be able to reinforce any attempt at naturally curing your laryngitis by holding back from taking the non-essential medications during this time.

***

Be careful and try not to clear your throat as this will only increase irritation and pain.

***

Lemon Juice Home Treatment for Laryngitis

Very effective home treatment for laryngitis is to gargle lemon juice and salt three to four times a day.  Take a lemon and juice it, then add a pinch of salt and mix it together.  Add about one teaspoon of this mixture to one cup of warm water, and then gargle it.  The value of the lemon is that it will help stimulate saliva flow because it is naturally acidic.  The value of the salt is that it will help to increase the lemon’s acidity that will then kill lots of microorganisms.
