Dry Hair Home Remedies & Natural Treatments

Fish as Dry Hair Home Remedy

A home remedy that I have found to help with my dry hair is to eat fish, more particularly salmon.

Hot Oil

Another great natural remedy for dry hair is to use Avon’s skin so soft as a hot oil treatment. Not only does it help with moistening your hair it also puts a nice shine in your hair.

***

Mayonnaise

I have found that using real mayo is a good home remedy for dry hair. For quick results just apply the mayo to your hair and leave it for an hour then rinse it out and use shampoo and conditioner. For longer results you can leave it in your hair overnight, but be sure to put a towel on your pillow. Rinse it out in the morning using shampoo and conditioner.

Coconut Oil

You can use virgin coconut oil as another home remedy for dry hair. You take the coconut oil and massage it on your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes or even overnight, then you wash your hair with shampoo and rinse it out with lukewarm water. Do this 2 to 3 times per week.

Another way to treat dry hair with a home remedy is to take a shower then after your get out dry your hair with a towel but leave it moist. Apply a lotion that does not contain harmful chemicals to the tips of your hair and lower half of your hair. It will keep your hair moist until the natural oils from your scalp start working.

A great remedy for dry hair is to use a more expensive shampoo and conditioner such as Aussies 3 minute miracle. Apply the shampoo and conditioner for 3 minutes each then rinse it, you can leave it in your hair up to five minutes for better results. You can also mix it with other conditioners and that way you can save it so it will last longer.

Lower pH Dry Hair Home Treatment

A simple home treatment for dry hair is to change your regular shampoo and conditioner for something else and wash your hair less. When changing out your shampoo keep in mind the pH of the shampoo because if it is too high the harder it will be on hair so make sure the pH of your shampoo is below 4.5, your best bet would be to use Acidic shampoos because they are better for your hair. As for washing less try washing your hair ever other day, that way you give you scalp oils a chance to work on moistening your hair.

Finger Tips Home Remedy for Dry Hair

Another way to keep your hair from drying out is to use your fingers and not your nails when lathering your hair during a wash. People tend to scrub with their nails instead of gently massaging the shampoo with their fingers. This will help with preventing breakage of hair and not irritate your scalp so much. When you wash your hair don’t just massage your hair with your finger tips, but use them to massage your scalp so it will stimulate your oil glands. This is one of the best natural remedies for dry hair.

No Alcohol

A simple home treatment to cure your dry hair is to use alcohol free conditioners when you are washing out your hair. Alcohol tends to dry hair out quick so when you buy a conditioner try to make sure that amount of alcohol is small or none at all. Also avoid using scented conditioner because it tends to have big amounts of alcohol in them. You may want to try an overnight conditioner if using a regular non-alcoholic conditioner isn’t working. Apply the conditioner on your head right before you go to bed, wear a shower cap over your head after applying it, and rinse it out in the morning.

A home remedy for dry hair that hair care professionals recommend is hot oil treatments. You can buy hot oils over the counter at a lot of supermarkets, or anywhere you shop. You should always read the instructions on the packet before you use it. Most hot oil treatments require that you apply it to your hair, put on a shower cap, and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes. Then after your 20 or 30 minutes are up rinse it out using a gentle shampoo.

Even though brushing your hair on regular basis is good, you should keep in mind that you can brush too much. Brushing too much can lead to breakage of the hair and dry hair is more vulnerable to breakage. When you brush your hair use brushes that have boar-bristles or that are vent brushes. Be sure when you are brushing your hair to do it gently and never use brushes on wet hair, use combs instead when you are brushing wet hair. This is an important natural remedy for dry hair.

Another helpful home remedy for dry hair is to avoid using hair dryers or hot rollers. Rollers are the worst of all the hair care items that heat up. They will stretch and shrink your hair at the same time which stresses and dries it out quickly. Try not to use these items when tending to your hair and if you need to use a hair dryer use it on its lowest level.

A great home remedy for preventing dry hair is to pace your hair treatments. Apply one treatment and wait five to six days to apply the next one. For example if you dye your hair on Monday you should wait until Friday or Saturday to straighten it. This way it won’t dry your hair out.

Vinegar Natural Home Remedy for Dry Hair

If you already have dry hair a remedy that will help with it is using vinegar. Vinegar acts as a great conditioner for hair if you just apply 1 tablespoon of vinegar to your hair after you wash it with shampoo. You should keep a small bottle in your shower for you to use on a regular basis. All you have to do is mix 2 cups of water with a ½ cup vinegar. You should apply this every time you wash your hair, massage the vinegar into your hair using your finger tips not your nails. You can also use this treatment before washing your hair with shampoo for dandruff issues.
