Pleurisy Home Remedies

Pleurisy is a condition of inflammation in the lining that surrounds the lungs (pleural cavity).  The inflamed layers of the pleura rub against one another each time the lungs expand and contract with the breath. This can result in a stabbing pain more often on the inhalation part of the cycle. While viral infection is the most predominant cause of pleurisy, it can also result from other conditions such as auto-immune disorder, pneumonia and lung cancer.

Beta Glucan

Much research has been done in the past 30 years on beta glucan. It is a very effective immune modulator which means it helps the immune system function effectively and normally.  Since viruses are usually the cause of pleurisy, beta glucan is a wonderful home remedy that will aid the immune system in getting rid of the virus. Take 200 mg daily.  Go here to read more about beta glucan.

Limited Intake and Hot Water Enema

Pleurisy can be handled by adjusting your intake of liquid.  Be sure that you are only drinking water and only doing so three to four times a day.  You should also be sure that you aren't eating solid foods.  You can gradually increase your consumption of water to about five to six glasses a day.  Once you have made this gradual increase, you should then add an enema of hot water to your daily routine.

Chest Packs

You can alleviate the pain and congestion of pleurisy by applying a hot chest pack to your chest area two to three times a day.  If you are suffering from a fever, then you can substitute a cold pack.  You can leave the pack on for about an hour at a time.  This is really helpful because it helps to alleviate both congestion and pain.  It's even more helpful if you do deep breathing exercising while the chest pack is applied.
