Constipation Home Remedies & Natural Cures

A great home remedy to relieve constipation is to balance the intestinal microbes.  You can take a probiotic for this.  Also, comfrey, turkey rhubarb, red clover and don quai are good mild laxatives.  If you are really constipated and need to get things moving right away, the herb cascara sagrada will do it without any bad side effects.  Slippery elm and psyllium husk taken in water will add much needed fiber (for most people much needed) and will also cleans the colon.

Dandelion & Licorice Tea

Young children can have dandelion or licorice tea to relieve constipation.



I am in my mid-forties and been suffering from constipation since I was 25 after having my first son. I have tried fibers, prunes, bananas and various other fruits and green vegetables also stop eating meats and going veggie for couple years nothing worked. After an early morning run and having my devotion with God I said to Him I don\'t understand this, I eat healthy and nothing is working. All that came to my mind was magnesium. It was years later after the constipation got more severe I tried the magnesium and it worked. Of course there is a deeper problem why only magnesium works. I will get around to seeing a specialist soon.


Plenty of Fiber and Water

If you get plenty of fiber in your diet and drink plenty of water you will have good regular bowel movements.  This means cut out refined processed foods especially white flour products like bread and pasta.  Buy whole wheat products.  Eat more veggies.  Meat and dairy have no fiber whatsoever.  Also, guava, seeds and all, will add fiber.


Chlorophyl Constipation Natural Remedy

Give bran cereal to small children to relieve constipation.  Take chlorophyll for improving and maintaining health of the colon.


Prune Juice

Drinking a glass of prune juice is one of the best constipation home remedies ever invented.  It will really do it when you are constipated.  To avoid constipation eat raisins, prunes or dates.


Fruit as Home Remedy

Some good fruits that relieve constipation are pears, orange juice, prunes and papaya.  Bael fruit is also a good natural laxative.


Raisin Juice for Babies

If your baby has trouble with bowel movements, give the juice of raisins that have been soaked overnight in water.  Get the water hot first then add the raisins and soak.  Give some of this in water.


Olive Oil & Lemon Juice

Mix together 1 tsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of lemon juice and take this every morning.  If the olive oil is unpleasant, take a mint after you do the oil.  But you will get used to it. I got completely off laxatives doing this.  It keeps the bowel lubricated.  If your problem is really intense, do this at night and in the morning.  This is a wonderful constipation home remedy and it works great for me!


Avoid Meat and Dairy

Stay away from foods that are hard to digest like meat and dairy.  A super remedy is to eat prunes every day and also drink a cup of prune juice if you are stove up and several cups if its really bad. 



A great home remedy to relieve constipation and clean out your bowels is to do a 24 hour fast with no solid food.  Do this from one morning to the next.  Then when you go off the fast, put the juice of one lemon in a glass of water and add a half teaspoon of salt.  With the other half of lemon make a second drink just like it.  Next make a breakfast of yogurt and fruit or other light food and chase this with the drink.  The peristaltic action will commence and the water and lemon will flush everything out.  Fasting aids in bringing the food waste up to the edge of eliminating and the lemon water with salt pushes it on through.
